Issues surrounding development and development aid have been in increased focus in Europe in the past two years. 2015 was the European Year for Development, putting the spotlight on how EU development aid works, as well as how and where development money is spent. The European Union and its Member States are the biggest global donors of official development aid, contributing 1 58.2 billion euros in 2014.
